E2E in West Bengal
A Developmental Program for Urban Disadvantaged Youth
Education to Employability Program (E2E), conceptualized by IETS, is a first-of-its kind initiative to address the critical gap between education and employment. The strength of this initiative lies in its comprehensiveness of age-appropriate inputs for students so that, as a final outcome, the students who have passed the Board examinations become fully equipped to manage their own aspirations and ambitions regarding work opportunities, and design their own career plan.
Participant Profiles:
The target group comprises school-leavers who have some or all of the following characteristics:
- belong to the age group of 16 to 18 years
- have at least secondary standard of formal education
- have no specific existing skills but have the drive and ability to work
- possess behavioural inconsistencies due to their environment
- might not be able to continue formal education after the 10th standard
- strongly wish to channelize capacity for gainful engagement
E2E was carried out by IETS in collaboration with Vikramshila Education Resource Society in five government-aided schools of Kolkata from 20th April to 20th May in 2009. It was supported by the Dell Foundation. The project was launched to offer age-appropriate inputs for the students so that they become fully equipped to manage their ambitions and plan their career. About 250 students underwent this training.
