Anchor - A Life Skills Program for school children
Anchor, a Life Skills program designed by IETS, gives adolescents (ages 10-14 years) ample opportunity and a safe forum to interact with others as well as share and exchange ideas, with the aim of impacting their perception and attitude about themselves and the world. For children, adolescence is a period marked by several changes at the physical, mental, emotional and social level. For many, it is a confusing time as they have to deal with changes within themselves and new perceptions in the environment around them.
Various international organisations have been advocating the need to introduce Life Skills training at the school level for adolescents - preparing them for life. Life Skills training world over addresses two concerns:
- To prevent children from making wrong choices during their formative years
- To strengthen their abilities to positively deal with people and their environment and to develop their self esteem and confidence such that they are able to communicate with adults effectively and manage life situations
Anchor equips the adolescents with cognitive, social, interpersonal and self-managerial skills needed to cope up with problems and stress. The adolescents are taken through activities that are aimed at awareness building and providing necessary skills for application in day-to-day life. The process of learning is experiential and fun.
