Rural Entrepreneurship Skills

IL&FS Education is working on livelihood generation programmes for the rural poor that support improving productivity by inducing appropriate technology and upgrading the skills

We offer entrepreneurship skills programmes for the rural poor that have been established, after mapping-out the key issues involved in livelihood enhancement. We outline rural sectors and resources, study the gap analyses, frame strategies for upliftment of the sector and finally implement frameworks to address the identified gaps

We have a “farm/home to market” strategy with strong delivery mechanisms and institutional structures to enable sustainable livelihoods for rural artisans and economically disadvantaged producers engaged in handloom, handicraft and other non-farm local economic activities

Our services include:

  • Assessing the market opportunities and demand patterns for products
  • Creating community owned and managed grass-root level institutions
  • Developing contemporary products without sacrificing the ‘ethnicity’ by providing high end design linkages
  • Improving productivity and quality by inducing appropriate technology and upgrading the skills
  • Ensuring a better and more efficient raw material supply chain
  • Establishing linkages for finance with government agencies and banks and facilitating market linkages with major buyers

IL&FS Education is working with 50,000 rural women engaged in the handloom and handicraft in the Andhra Pradesh (AP), Bihar and Tripura, in collaboration with the central and state governments

Some of the projects involving strategy, design and implementation for livelihood promotion include:

  • The Tripura Bamboo Mission
  • Competitiveness enhancement of Pochampally Ikkat weavers in Andhra Pradesh
  • Development of a lace cluster in Narsapur
