Government of Punjab and IL&FS Clusters sign an MoU for PURA Project
In an initiative to provide urban facilities to rural areas, the Government of Punjab signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on November 2nd 2012 with IL&FS Cluster Development Initiative Limited for identifying potential clusters for the Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA) projects.
Mr. Balwinder Singh, Director - Rural Development and Panchayat, Punjab, and Dr A.K. Krishna Kumar, Executive Director - IL&FS Clusters, signed the MoU in the presence of Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra, Minister - Rural Development and Panchayat, Punjab.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Rakhra said that the PURA projects would aim at providing quality physical infrastructure, high-end market-linked vocational skills and economic activities. He also added that this partnership with IL&FS will help in developing livelihood opportunities, urban amenities and infrastructure facilities such as water supply and sanitation, roads, drainage and solid waste management.
As a initiative under this understanding, IL&FS Clusters will also undertake skill development activity as well as provide 'add-on' revenue-earning facilities such as village-linked tourism, integrated rural hub, rural market, agri-common services centre and warehousing.
