IL&FS joins hands with Department of Social Welfare and UNICEF

July, 2011: IL&FS Education has joined hands with Department of Social Welfare, Government of Karnataka and UNICEF for "Accelerating Girls’ Education" programme.
The objective of the programme is to impart health, physical education, life skills and English proficiency to girls living in pre-matric girls’ hostels in Karnataka.
The Department of Social Welfare felt the need for launching this programme after IL&FS Education carried a field research in girls’ hostels in Karnataka. The study indicated that sanitation and hygiene were a critical area of concern in the hostels, and issues like menstrual hygiene and cleanliness in the surroundings hindered the educational prospects of the girls residing in these hostels.
"Accelerating Girls’ Education" has been launched in 39 hostels impacting the lives of 3,000 students in four districts, namely Bangalore Urban, Raichur , Chikkaballapur and Ramanagaram.
